Minecraft 1.17 Java Edition Download
Minecraft 1.17 is a major update that adds a lot of diverse content to the game. You will see new world generation patterns that make use of blocks from this update. Moreover, there will be new sea mobs and completely unique items that improve interaction with the cubic world.

The snapshots are still being released, as the update is not yet ready! And this means only one thing — the pre-release content will be even richer. Below, we have described the changes already included in the snapshots. You will learn all about the new content in detail and then be able to download Minecraft 1.17 right now, even given that the release hasn’t yet taken place.

4. New World Generation Features
New Blocks
Block of Amethyst
This block is generated in caves, more precisely in amethyst geodes. You can obtain it in the form of a block, unlike the budding amethyst. There is another way to get an amethyst block — by crafting it with 4 amethyst shards. The block of amethyst belongs to the category of building blocks.
Budding Amethyst
It is a block generated in amethyst geodes. On a budding amethyst, the buds of different sizes are gradually generated. This block cannot be obtained by mining, even if one applies a tool enchanted with Silk Touch. If you break a budding amethyst, nothing drops out of it. The budding amethyst belongs to the category of building blocks.
Amethyst Buds
They are small amethyst crystals that sprout on budding amethyst blocks. They can be one of three sizes: small, medium, and large. Thus, they sprout gradually — from small to medium and from medium to large. Eventually, after the appearance of a large bud on a budding amethyst block, it gradually grows into an amethyst cluster. A bud can grow both up and sideways on an amethyst block. You can get an amethyst bud only with a tool enchanted with Silk Touch. The amethyst bud belongs to the category of decorative blocks.
Amethyst Cluster
This block is the result of the final stage of a large amethyst bud’s growth. Unlike amethyst buds, clusters emit light. A cluster can grow both up and sideways on an amethyst block. An amethyst cluster drops amethyst shards when mining, from which an amethyst block can be crafted. However, if you break an amethyst cluster with a tool having Silk Touch enchantment, an intact amethyst cluster will drop.
Deepslate
This block is generated in deep caves. It features various textures and is used as an ordinary stone.
Calcite
It is a stone that has a pearly white texture. Calcite is a medium layer of amethyst geodes.
Tuff
A stone that has a dark gray texture and is generated in deep caves. This block can be found near amethyst geodes and can change the texture depending on the position. Tuff is a building block.
Copper Ore
This ore is generated at approximately the same level as iron ore and in similar quantities. When smelting, a copper ingot is obtained, from which some kinds of copper blocks are crafted.
Copper Blocks
One kind of copper block is a block of copper that can be crafted from 4 copper ingots; besides, it is possible to get the ingots back from the block. The block of copper is used to craft cut copper blocks from which slabs and stairs are created. All the blocks crafted from copper are oxidized over time, changing the texture thereby. To prevent this, you need to craft a copper block with a honeycomb.
Pointed Dripstone
It is generated in caves and can grow both on the lower and the upper side of a block. If there is no block above a dripstone located on the upper side of a block, then it is destroyed. But if there is a creature above it, then the former receives damage, which level depends on a dripstone’s height.
Dripstone Block
Generated in certain caves and crafted from 4 pointed dripstones. Dripstone block is a decorative one.
Powder Snow
A new type of snow that has a similar texture, but any creature sinks through this block. If leather shoes are equipped, the character will not sink through the powder snow, but if you sit down, even the character with leather shoes sinks through. Powder snow can be collected with a bucket. When you stay inside the powder snow for a long time, the frost effect appears on the screen, and any mob or player begins to take damage. Skeletons trapped in the powder snow will eventually turn into strays.
Sculk Sensor
You can get such a block only in the creative mode — it cannot be crafted right now. It is used as a redstone block and for the construction of certain mechanisms.
Tinted Glass
A new kind of glass that does not let light through. It is crafted from 4 amethyst shards and a glass block. When extracting tinted glass, the block itself is dropped — unlike the case of ordinary glass, a tool with Silk Touch enchantment is not even required.
Glow Lichen
It is found in various caves, but rarely; it emits light. Unlike vine, you cannot climb on glow lichen. You can obtain it with scissors.
Candle
A candle is crafted of honeycomb and a string. For a candle to start burning, you need to light it, say, with a flint and steel. A candle can be repainted in any available color. You can set up to 4 candles in a single block, but they must be of the same color.
New Items
Amethyst Shard
It is extracted from amethyst clusters: when processing 1 cluster, one amethyst shard is dropped; to increase the number of shards, you will need a pickaxe with the fortune enchantment. It is used for crafting tinted glass and spyglass.
Spyglass
It is crafted from two copper ingots and one amethyst shard and used for zooming in on various objects at a long distance.
Bundle
It is created from two strings and six rabbit hides and used as an additional source of extra item storage cells.
New Mobs
Glow Squid
Almost the same as a usual squid, but it glows — right now, they cannot be encountered, only accessed to in the creative mode. When dying, glow squid drop glowing ink sacs.
Axolotl
It can have five different colors: white, pink, yellow, brown, and blue. It is a passive creature that can be caught with a bucket. Their main target is squid. Axolotl can be bred by feeding them tropical fish.
New World Generation Features
Amethyst Geode
It is a small structure located deep in caves. The shape is similar to a circle. It consists of amethyst blocks, both ordinary and budding.
Deep Cave
It is a huge-size underground cave consisting of deepslate, basalt, and tuff. Some ores can also be found there.
Ore Improvements
The appearance of all ores has changed. The new types of ores are introduced, or rather, ones that contain deepslate instead of cobblestone; they can be found in caves consisting of deepslate. There are five deep ore types: iron, gold, lapis lazuli, redstone, and diamond. When smelting, ordinary ingots are obtained.
