Snapshot Minecraft 25w31a Java Edition Download (Review)

On July 29, 2025, the first snapshot for Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.9 — 25w31a was released. The update adds new blocks, items, mobs, and improvements. The main theme is the development of the copper industry: armor, tools, chests, and even a new mob — the Copper Golem. Decorative blocks, gameplay tweaks, and fixes for more than 50 bugs were also introduced.

Innovations

Copper Chest
A new type of chest that oxidizes over time, just like other copper blocks. Can be waxed. Crafted from a regular chest and copper ingots.

Copper Golem Statue
A decorative block that can emit a redstone signal depending on its pose. Oxidizes over time, can be waxed. When interacted with an axe, it can turn back into a mob.

Lightning Rod
Weathered and oxidized variants were added, as well as their waxed versions.

Shelf
A new decorative and functional block for storing and displaying items. Supports up to 3 slots, shows items, reacts to redstone, and can synchronize with the player’s hotbar.

New Items

Copper Armor
Stronger than leather and gold, but weaker than iron. Enchantability is slightly lower than iron.

Copper Horse Armor
A new option for horses, not craftable, drops similarly to iron. Protection — 4 points.

Copper Nuggets
Obtained by smelting copper items. Can also be crafted from an ingot.
Copper Tools
A new set (sword, pickaxe, axe, hoe, shovel). Stronger than stone, but weaker than iron. Have stone-level damage and attack speed, but enchant better than diamond.

New Mob

Copper Golem
Created by placing a carved pumpkin on a copper block.
12 HP (6 hearts).
Drops 1–3 copper ingots.
Takes no damage from falls or water.
Oxidizes over time, when fully oxidized turns into a statue.
Can sort items between chests using copper and wooden ones.
Supports storage mechanics up to 16 items per stack and interaction with the player.

Changes

Mob Heads retain their name after placement and breaking.
Lightning Rod now oxidizes and can be waxed.
Dyes received updated icons with improved accessibility.
Spawn Eggs show a warning in Peaceful mode.

Bug Fixes

This snapshot fixed 53 bugs, including:

Fixed sound volume issues (thunder, ghasts, riding).
Debug menu (F3), key, and interface errors.
Incorrect tooltips and duplicate player invites.
Cases with snow drops and incorrect mob behavior.

Installation

Step 1. Open TLauncher and go to the Settings tab by clicking the gear icon in the lower right corner.

Step 2. Select the Display Snapshots checkbox, and do not forget to save the changes by clicking the appropriate button at the bottom.

Step 3. On the main screen of TLauncher, open the version selection tab, select the desired snapshot, and click 'Install' or 'Launch the Game' if the snapshot is already installed.
